Reviewing!!!!
What It's About:
This novel is about a dog, Buck, who is living a nice calm live in California until he gets kidnapped and put into dog slavery. For him, it means that he has to pull a ridiculously heavy sled through miles and miles of frozen ice with little or nothing to eat, and beatings. For him, being a domestic dog, he's practically out of the element, until he begins to adapt to his surroundings and starts learning from the other dogs. Buck is also coming to the realization of the "law of club and fang", or kill-or be killed. Buck becomes involved in a struggle with another dog, Spitz. Buck ends up winning, and taking the leading role of the sled dog team. The team changes human management, who have not idea what their doing, and then the new people go to a man, John Thorton, and he tells them to stop beating Buck, and he keeps him. Throughout the rest of the book, Buck has to deal with the ultimate decision, staying with Thorton, or answering the call of the wild.
My Opinion:
It was a good book, but the beginning chapters are hard to get past. There were times where I had no idea what was happening, and other parts were just boring. I like the last two chapters, and any action scene Buck had. Oh, and scenes with Buck and John Thorton. I really enjoyed all the conflicts they had, plus the personification.
Favorite Part:
I'm gonna go with the ending when John is killed by the Indians, and Buck goes out of his mind and kills the Indians, and also made them kill each other. Then the wolf pack comes up and attacks him, and Buck defends himself, so the oldest of the pack accepts him. I also enjoyed scenes when John would pet Buck. It was adorable.
Conclusion:
I think you guys should read it. It's kind of a classic, and it's a good book. Might take you a while to like it. But it's good.
